Generated as you listen

This tool creates a new stream of random samples with Web Audio rather than repeating a recorded file. White noise has equal power per unit of frequency in the generated signal and tends to sound brighter than brown noise. Your speakers or headphones also affect what you hear. Start the generator with the button, then use its slider to find a comfortable level.

Use it on its own or as a background layer

For a simple background, leave white noise as the only track. For more texture, add gentle rain at a lower level. You can save this combination or set a timer to stop it. The timer follows elapsed time while the page runs; browsers may suspend pages when a device sleeps, so background behavior varies by device.

Common questions

Is this the same as the white noise library tracks?

No. This generator creates noise continuously in the browser. The library also contains four separate white noise audio tracks.

Why is there no sound until I press play?

Browsers generally require a user gesture before audio starts. Press Start generator and check both the page volume and your device volume.
